about Miranda's Choice

Since 2008 Miranda’s Choice – Small things and a big WOW!

Glad you are interested and want to know more about Miranda's Choice, so a warm hello, I am Nadine, the woman behind the hats, jewellery and skirts.

Walk of fame - carmen mirandaCarmen Miranda - my Idol!

I was born at the end of the seventies and discovered my penchant for unusual clothing styles with berets and pompom skirts at an early age. In my family, people always worked with their hands. My mother sewed, my father liked to work in the garage, my grandmother was a true knitting wonder. So it's not surprising that I've always loved to create with my hands and to express my creativity in some way. I studied art and sociology, worked in a museum and later at university as a research assistant. I was already known for my sometimes colourful style of dress with circle skirts and fascinators. I sewed my own clothes. When friends and their friends and again their friends wanted to have something made by me, I founded my label in 2008 alongside my job - at that time still under the name Kleinkariert. At some point, I was faced with the decision (because even I have to sleep sometimes, even if I still sleep far too little) whether to further my scientific career and finish my doctoral thesis or to concentrate fully on my love of fashion. In short, I decided to take the perhaps more difficult, but probably more exciting and fulfilling path of making my way as a solo self-employed woman.

Despite the many barriers you face as a self-employed person with the whole apparatus of tax, rules, law, health insurance and then Corona as well, I have never regretted this decision. By the way, I was honoured for my work in 2017 and awarded the UnternehmerInnen Brief NRW. In the meantime, I am loosely based on Carmen Miranda, "The woman with the tuttifrutti hatS". Carmen Miranda is an idol for me. That wonderful smile, the slightly grotesque and, of course, her hat creations captivate me every day. By the way, she was also the inspiration and homage for the name of the label.

I love what I do!

I like to sit in my colourful studio, which is sometimes stuffed to the roof with material, and design new things, play with colours and shapes, sometimes produce something for the dustbin, but then - at some point - something wonderful comes out of it. It's especially nice to get direct feedback from my customers. Because I'm on the road a lot with my label. You can find my stand at relevant festivals around rock'n'roll and swing. It's wonderful when I can see my hats live on the spot at the woman's, I look at beaming faces because my stand visitor has just discovered what she's always been looking for.

Miranda's Choice on tour - I love a visit from my customers!

Events are often sources of inspiration for me. My products are vintage-inspired pieces and you can't reinvent the wheel, but there are trends here too (e.g. more Tiki style or more 30s chic). And in the end, fashion is and always will be constantly reinventing itself, no matter what time it is. In addition to the online shop and the events, you can also find my products in shops all over the world (from America to Switzerland). In the course of time, exciting projects have been added, besides wonderful collaborations with photographers (thanks to Carlos Kella, Pixelgnom and Delicate Photography), with models (be sure to check out our Star Collection) or magazines (like Vintage Flaneur, Vintage Woman or Sway Mag), I have also become part of other companies with my products. For example, Miranda's Choice has been providing hair baths for the employees of the vegan burger chain Swing Kitchen since the beginning.

Among the most exciting things I've been able to experience so far are television appearances, including one in the WDR studio in Cologne.
But the biggest adventure is still ahead of me: Viva las Vegas 2022!
