Hairflowers: the small or large accessory

Hairflowers are popular today as a special accessory to an alternative outfit and are once again moving into the focus of attention due to the boho trend with romantic wreaths of flowers. The floral accessories are also very popular in the rock'n'roll and vintage scene. Already in the 1950s, people used other cultures to decorate themselves or their homes (Tiki culture). So it is hard to imagine a vintage Aloha outfit without hibiscus or frangipani flowers in the hair. Even at romantic weddings a wreath of flowers is totally in vogue and emphasizes the bride's feminine charisma.

In our assortment you will find simple, small hair flowers like a single frangipani blossom on a leaf or larger flower arrangements. You can wear these opulent hair flowers not only as hair accessories but also as brooches or hat flowers. Large flower arrangements crown your head truly royal (see here: Big Headdress).

Throughout its history, the wreath of flowers has had very different meanings. In ancient times it was a symbol of fertility, in the Middle Ages it was associated with fertility, in the 1970s the wreath of flowers symbolised rebellion against conventions. In some countries a floral hair accessory is part of the traditional costume. In Japan, for example, there is the kanzashi, a hair accessory with flowers of a certain month, which is worn in the traditional Japanese hairstyle of women.

One of the most famous wearers of flowery hair ornaments is probably the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. In fact, hair flowers have a very old history and are even among the oldest headdresses in the world
